Princess Cruises Sanctuary Collection: benefits, ships and is Princess Premier included?

Princess Cruises Sanctuary Collection: benefits, ships and is Princess Premier included?

Princess Cruises Sanctuary Collection: benefits, ships and is Princess Premier included?  Princess Cruises is expanding its exclusive Sanctuary Collection to more ships across its fleet, giving guests access to dedicated relaxation spaces, elevated dining and a range of premium onboard benefits.    First introduced on Sun Princess and Star Princess, the Sanctuary Collection is now expanding to Royal Princess, followed by Regal Princess, Discovery Princess, Sky Princess and Enchanted Princess. With bookings for Royal Princess now open and further ships joining the programme in the coming months, there's plenty for cruise passengers to know before choosing their next sailing.    But what exactly is included in the Sanctuary Collection? Is Princess Premier part of the package, and what happens if you've already booked a cruise?    Here's everything you need to know about Princess Cruises' Sanctuary Collection in 2026 and 2027, including the latest rollout dates, onboard facilities and booking arrangements.      What is the Sanctuary Collection on Princess Cruises?  The Sanctuary Collection is Princess Cruises’ premium accommodation experience, designed for guests who want additional comfort, privacy and exclusive onboard benefits.    Available with eligible balcony staterooms and higher accommodation grades, the Sanctuary Collection combines enhanced accommodation with dedicated relaxation areas, exclusive dining and additional services. Guests can also enjoy the wider entertainment, restaurants and activities available throughout the ship.    Depending on the ship, accommodation booked and sailing, Sanctuary Collection benefits may include:  Access to the exclusive Sanctuary Club, an adults-only retreat. Dining at the Sanctuary Restaurant. Enhanced stateroom amenities and personalised service. Access to the Suite Lounge for eligible suite guests. Princess Premier included with eligible new Sanctuary Collection bookings, subject to the applicable booking and sailing conditions.  The Sanctuary Collection is designed to give guests more opportunities to unwind, enjoy dedicated facilities and make the most of their time onboard, with the added benefits of a premium accommodation experience.    What is included in the Sanctuary Collection?  The Sanctuary Collection combines exclusive onboard spaces with additional accommodation benefits. Here's what guests can expect from the experience.    The Sanctuary Club: an Adults-Only retreat  The Sanctuary Club is a dedicated space where guests can relax away from the busier areas of the ship.    Facilities vary by vessel but can include a pool, comfortable sun loungers, cabanas and attentive service. The space is designed to provide a quieter environment for guests who want to spend time unwinding between port visits or sea days.    Access is reserved for Sanctuary Collection guests aged 16 and over. Younger guests can still enjoy the other benefits associated with their accommodation but cannot enter the Sanctuary Club.    The introduction of the Sanctuary Club also changes access to certain onboard facilities. Once the transition takes place, day passes, lounger reservations and cabana rentals for guests who are not staying in Sanctuary Collection accommodation will no longer be available.    The Sanctuary restaurant: exclusive dining at sea  Dining is another key part of the Sanctuary Collection experience.    The Sanctuary Restaurant offers an exclusive dining environment with menus inspired by the destinations visited during your cruise. Guests can enjoy a more intimate setting alongside dedicated service, making it an additional option for dining onboard.    Reservations are not required, giving guests flexibility when planning their day.    Enhanced stateroom amenities and personalised service  Sanctuary Collection accommodation includes additional amenities and services designed to make your stay more comfortable.    Depending on your stateroom or suite and the ship you're sailing on, benefits can include enhanced in-room amenities, curated daily programming and priority services.    Guests staying in eligible suites also receive access to the exclusive Suite Lounge, offering a private space to relax with refreshments and additional concierge assistance.      Is Princess Premier included in the Sanctuary Collection?  Yes. Princess Premier is included with eligible new Sanctuary Collection bookings, although exceptions apply to some existing reservations and preview sailings.    Usually priced at £78 per person, per day, Princess Premier is Princess Cruises' highest-tier onboard package, bringing together a range of benefits designed to make your holiday more convenient.    Inclusions include premium drinks, specialty and casual dining, Wi-Fi, crew appreciation and selected shore excursion benefits, subject to the package terms.    Having Princess Premier included with eligible Sanctuary Collection bookings can add considerable value, combining exclusive accommodation benefits with a package that would otherwise typically cost £78pp per day.    However, the rules depend on when you booked, which ship you're sailing on and whether your departure meets the eligibility requirements. Check the package details for your specific sailing before booking.    Which Princess Cruises ships offer the Sanctuary Collection?  The Sanctuary Collection is currently available on Sun Princess and Star Princess, with five additional ships joining the programme as part of Princess Cruises' fleet expansion.    The rollout includes separate dates for when Sanctuary Collection staterooms become available to book and when the experience launches onboard.    Sun Princess and Star Princess  Sun Princess and Star Princess were the first ships to introduce the Sanctuary Collection. The experience is available to book on both ships, with Princess Premier included in eligible Sanctuary Collection bookings.    Royal Princess  Bookings for Sanctuary Collection staterooms on Royal Princess opened on 22 October 2026, with the onboard launch scheduled for 4 January 2027.    Royal Princess will also operate preview sailings from 30 October 2026 to 3 January 2027. During this period, guests booked in eligible Sanctuary Collection accommodation can enjoy access to the Sanctuary Club, Sanctuary Restaurant and applicable Sanctuary Collection amenities.    Princess Premier is not included during these preview sailings but can be purchased separately.    Regal Princess  Sanctuary Collection bookings on Regal Princess are scheduled to open on 5 November 2026, with the onboard launch planned for 17 April 2027.    Discovery Princess  Bookings for Discovery Princess are scheduled to open on 4 December 2026, ahead of the planned onboard launch on 24 April 2027.    Sky Princess  Sanctuary Collection staterooms on Sky Princess are scheduled to become available to book on 10 December 2026, with the onboard experience planned to launch on 29 May 2027.    Enchanted Princess  Enchanted Princess is scheduled to open Sanctuary Collection bookings on 17 December 2026, with the onboard launch planned for 12 June 2027.    These dates reflect Princess Cruises' announced rollout schedule as of 27 October 2026 and may be subject to change. Booking availability does not necessarily mean the full experience is already available onboard.  For the latest information, check the official Princess Cruises Sanctuary Collection guide.    What happens if you've already booked a Princess Cruise?  If you've already booked a Princess cruise and your stateroom becomes part of the Sanctuary Collection, you may receive the new accommodation benefits without having to change your reservation.    For eligible existing bookings, Princess Cruises has confirmed that your original booking reference, stateroom number and booked fare remain unchanged.    Once the Sanctuary Collection experience launches onboard your ship, eligible guests will receive the applicable benefits, including access to the Sanctuary Club and Sanctuary Restaurant, alongside enhanced amenities and services.    Existing purchases and arrangements, including shore excursions, spa appointments, pre-purchased amenities and packages, and Captain's Circle benefits, will also remain unchanged.    Will I pay more for Sanctuary Collection benefits?  No. Guests who have already booked an eligible stateroom that becomes part of the Sanctuary Collection will receive the applicable new accommodation benefits at their existing booked fare.    However, Princess Premier will not automatically be added if it wasn't already included in the original booking.    Guests can purchase Princess Premier separately if they want to enjoy the additional package benefits.    If you'd prefer not to stay in a Sanctuary Collection stateroom, contact your travel advisor or Princess Cruises to explore alternative accommodation. Changes will depend on availability, fare differences and the relevant booking conditions.    Can you upgrade to Princess Premier?  Yes. If Princess Premier isn't included in your booking, you can add it separately before your cruise.    Guests who have already purchased Princess Plus can also upgrade to Princess Premier by paying the difference between the two packages, subject to the applicable terms.    You can arrange an upgrade through your travel advisor or Princess Cruises. Assistance is also available onboard on embarkation day, although onboard pricing applies.    If you've already purchased Princess Premier, no additional action is required.    Can you upgrade to a Sanctuary Collection stateroom?  If you'd like to experience the Sanctuary Collection, you may be able to move to an eligible stateroom, subject to availability.    Your travel advisor can help you explore the available accommodation options and explain any additional fare that may apply.    Upgrade offers and bidding opportunities may also be available on selected sailings, although availability varies by voyage. If access to the Sanctuary Club and Sanctuary Restaurant is important to you, it's worth checking your options before departure rather than relying on a last-minute upgrade.    Is the Sanctuary Collection the same on every ship?  The Sanctuary Collection is designed to provide a consistent premium experience across the Princess Cruises fleet, but facilities, layouts and venue locations can vary between ships.    The location of the Sanctuary Club, Sanctuary Restaurant and Suite Lounge depends on the vessel. The Retreat Pool will also become part of the Sanctuary offering, with access reserved for eligible Sanctuary guests.    Royal Princess will feature a Champagne Wall within its Sanctuary space, adding another feature to the onboard experience.    Princess Cruises will make relevant deck plans available through its website and app, allowing guests to check where the facilities are located on their chosen ship.    The experience available to you will depend on the ship, your accommodation and the date of your sailing.      Frequently asked questions about the Sanctuary Collection  Q -Can children stay in Sanctuary Collection accommodation?  A - Yes. Children can stay in eligible Sanctuary Collection staterooms and receive the other applicable accommodation benefits. However, access to the Sanctuary Club is restricted to guests aged 16 and over.    Q - Can guests in other staterooms visit the Sanctuary Club?  A - No. Once the venue transitions to the Sanctuary Club, access is reserved for guests staying in eligible Sanctuary Collection accommodation. Day passes, lounger reservations and cabana rentals for other guests will no longer be available.    Q - Do I need to reserve a table at the Sanctuary Restaurant?  A - No. Reservations are not required at the Sanctuary Restaurant, giving guests flexibility when planning their onboard dining.    Q - Does the Sanctuary Collection affect Captain's Circle benefits?  A - No. Sanctuary Collection sailings earn Captain's Circle cruise credit in the same way as other Princess Cruises sailings. Existing Captain's Circle benefits also remain unchanged when eligible existing bookings receive the new Sanctuary Collection benefits.    Q - Is the Sanctuary Collection worth it?  A - The Sanctuary Collection may appeal to guests who value exclusive relaxation spaces, dedicated dining and enhanced accommodation benefits.    For guests who plan to make use of the Sanctuary Club and Sanctuary Restaurant, it offers additional ways to enjoy their time onboard. The inclusion of Princess Premier on eligible bookings can also add value for those who intend to use its drinks, dining, Wi-Fi and other package benefits.    Whether it's right for you will depend on your preferred accommodation, budget and the onboard experiences that matter most during your cruise.    Explore Princess Cruises with Cruise118  With the Sanctuary Collection expanding to more ships, Princess Cruises is giving guests additional opportunities to enjoy exclusive onboard spaces, enhanced accommodation and elevated dining.    Whether you're considering Sun Princess, Star Princess or one of the ships joining the programme in 2027, it's worth checking the available staterooms, package inclusions and onboard launch dates before booking.    Explore Princess Cruises cruise deals with Cruise118 and speak to our Cruise Experts to find a sailing that suits you.

Princess Cruises cabins: Which stateroom is right for you?

Princess Cruises cabins: Which stateroom is right for you?

Princess Cruises cabins: Which stateroom is right for you?  Choosing your cabin is one of the biggest decisions you’ll make when booking a Princess Cruises holiday. Do you need a balcony? Is an interior cabin too small? What’s the difference between a mini-suite and a suite? And are the more expensive cabin grades actually worth paying for?    Princess Cruises offers a wide choice of staterooms, from budget-friendly interior cabins to spacious suites, as well as specialist options such as single staterooms, Reserve Collection and Sanctuary Collection accommodation.    This guide explains the different Princess Cruises cabins, what you can expect from each type and how to choose the right stateroom for your cruise.    What cabin types does Princess Cruises offer?  The main Princess Cruises cabin types are:  Interior staterooms Oceanview staterooms Balcony staterooms Mini-suites Suites  There are also more specialist accommodation options on selected ships, including single staterooms, Reserve Collection mini-suites, Sanctuary Collection accommodation and Cabana mini-suites.    The exact cabin categories, layouts and facilities can vary between Princess ships, so it’s always worth checking the specific stateroom available on your sailing before booking.    Princess Cruises interior cabins      An interior stateroom is the most budget-friendly cabin option on Princess Cruises. As the name suggests, it doesn't have a window, so there are no outside views from the room.    Princess interior cabins are approximately 136–162 square feet, depending on the ship and stateroom. They are designed with the same essentials you’d expect from a Princess cabin, including a Princess Luxury Bed, private bathroom, TV, storage, hairdryer, safe and climate control.    Who is an interior cabin best for?  An interior cabin can be a great choice if you:  Want to keep the overall cruise price down Spend most of your time exploring the ship and destinations Don't need a view from your room Prefer a darker room for sleeping Are travelling on a shorter cruise  If you’re the type of passenger who only returns to the cabin to shower, change and sleep, paying extra for a balcony may not be the best use of your budget.    Princess also offers single staterooms on selected ships, designed specifically for solo travellers.    Princess Cruises oceanview cabins      An oceanview stateroom gives you natural light and a view of the sea through a window, without the additional cost of a private balcony.    Oceanview rooms are generally around 145–212 square feet, although the exact size and layout varies by ship.    For many cruisers, an oceanview cabin offers a useful middle ground. You get the feeling of having an outside cabin and can see the destination and sea from your room, but you don't have to pay as much as you would for a balcony.    Is an oceanview cabin worth it?  An oceanview cabin could be worth considering if having natural light matters to you but you don't think you'll spend much time sitting outside.    If you’re choosing between an interior and oceanview cabin, the main difference is the window and the natural light. If you're choosing between an oceanview and balcony, think about how often you'd realistically use the outdoor space.    Princess Cruises balcony cabins      A balcony stateroom is one of Princess Cruises’ most popular cabin options. It gives you your own private outdoor space where you can sit and enjoy the sea views.    Princess balcony staterooms are approximately 179–279 square feet including the balcony, depending on the ship and cabin.   A balcony can be particularly appealing on scenic itineraries. Imagine opening the doors in the morning to see the coastline, watching the ship sail into port or having a quiet drink outside while you're at sea.    Are Princess balcony cabins worth it?  For many cruisers, a balcony is the cabin upgrade that makes the biggest difference to the experience.    It can be particularly worthwhile if you:  Enjoy spending time in your cabin Like having your own outdoor space Are cruising somewhere scenic, such as Alaska or the Norwegian Fjords Enjoy watching the ship arrive into port Are celebrating a special occasion Prefer having somewhere quiet to sit away from the busier public areas  However, a balcony isn't automatically the best choice for everyone. If you’re rarely in your cabin and spend most of your time around the ship, you may prefer to save the money for dining, excursions or other parts of your holiday.    What is an obstructed-view balcony?  Some Princess balcony cabins have an obstructed view. You still have a balcony, but part of the view may be blocked by something such as a lifeboat or part of the ship's structure.    These cabins can offer a way to get a balcony for a lower price, but always check exactly what the obstruction is before booking.    Princess Cruises mini-suites      A Princess mini-suite gives you more space than a standard balcony cabin, with a separate sitting area and balcony.    Princess states that mini-suites are larger than its balcony rooms, with current mini-suite accommodation generally ranging from around 304–389 square feet depending on the specific category and ship.    Mini-suites can be a particularly good option for couples who want more room to relax or families who need additional living space.    Is a Princess mini-suite worth it?  A mini-suite can make sense if you want more than just a place to sleep but don't necessarily need the additional space and benefits of a full suite.    The extra sitting area is useful if you like spending time in your cabin, while the additional space can also make a difference on longer cruises.    It's also important to understand that not every mini-suite comes with the same benefits. Some are part of the Reserve Collection or Sanctuary Collection, while a standard mini-suite doesn't automatically include those additional perks.    What is a Reserve Collection mini-suite?  The Reserve Collection is a premium accommodation category offering selected mini-suites and suites with additional benefits.    Depending on the ship and accommodation, benefits can include a more premium location, exclusive dining and other added touches.    The important thing to remember is that a mini-suite and a Reserve Collection mini-suite aren't necessarily the same thing. Always check the exact cabin description attached to your sailing to see which benefits are included.    What is the Sanctuary Collection?  The Sanctuary Collection is Princess' premium accommodation experience available on selected ships.    On Sun Princess and Star Princess, Sanctuary Collection accommodation includes benefits such as access to the Sanctuary Club and Sanctuary Restaurant, alongside Princess Premier benefits.    Sanctuary Collection cabins are designed for passengers who want a more exclusive experience rather than simply a larger room.    Availability and benefits depend on the ship and specific accommodation, so check the details for your sailing before booking.    Princess Cruises suites      A Princess suite is the most spacious standard accommodation option and is aimed at passengers who want significantly more room and additional benefits.    Suite categories vary between ships. Depending on the vessel, you may find accommodation such as Vista Suites, Grand Suites, Signature Suites, Window Suites and Sky Suites.    Some suites feature large or wraparound balconies, while certain ships offer particularly large Sky Suites with multiple bedrooms and bathrooms.    Suites can also come with additional benefits that aren't included with standard cabins. These can vary by ship and suite category, so it's worth looking beyond the extra square footage when comparing prices.    Are Princess suites worth the money?  A suite can be worth considering if you value extra space, a more comfortable retreat and the additional benefits that come with premium accommodation.    They may be particularly appealing for:  Special occasions, including weddings, honeymoons and milestone celebrations Longer cruises, when having extra living space can make a bigger difference Families travelling together, who may benefit from the additional room Guests who spend more time relaxing in their cabin, rather than using it mainly for sleeping Cruisers who want additional suite benefits and priority services  Princess also offers wedding and honeymoon options, making a suite an appealing choice for couples celebrating a particularly special occasion. If you're planning a honeymoon or celebration cruise, the extra space and enhanced accommodation can help make the experience feel more memorable.    If you're mainly looking for somewhere comfortable to sleep, however, the jump from a balcony cabin to a suite may not offer the best value for your holiday budget.    What is included in a Princess Cruises cabin?  Regardless of which cabin category you choose, Princess staterooms come with a range of standard amenities.    These include:  Princess Luxury Bed Private bathroom Dedicated stateroom attendant Daily cleaning service Flat-panel TV Hairdryer In-room safe Climate control Closet and storage space Sustainable Beekman 1802 toiletries  Princess also uses MedallionClass technology, which can automatically detect when you're approaching your cabin door.    OceanNow delivery and room service are also available, although fees and inclusions can depend on your booking and package.    Which Princess Cruises cabin is best?  There isn't one cabin that's best for everyone. The right choice depends on how you travel and what you want to spend your money on.    Best for saving money: Interior cabin  If you're happy spending most of your time around the ship, an interior can keep your cruise price down.    Best for natural light: Oceanview cabin  You get a window and sea views without paying for a balcony.    Best all-rounder: Balcony cabin  A private outdoor space gives you somewhere to enjoy the views and fresh air without needing to leave your cabin.    Best for extra space: Mini-suite  Ideal if you want a separate sitting area and more room than a standard balcony cabin.    Best for premium accommodation: Suite  Suites offer significantly more space alongside additional benefits.    Best for solo travellers: Single stateroom  Available on selected Princess ships, these are designed specifically for one guest.    How do I choose the right Princess cabin?  Before booking, think about these five things.    1. How much time will you spend in your cabin?    If you're planning to spend most days ashore or around the ship, you may not need to spend more on premium accommodation.    If you enjoy slow mornings, room service and relaxing with a view, upgrading could make more sense.    2. Does the itinerary make a balcony more valuable?    A balcony can be particularly enjoyable on scenic cruises where there is something interesting to see throughout the sailing.    For destinations such as Alaska and the Norwegian Fjords, having your own outdoor space can be a memorable part of the cruise.    3. How important is cabin size?    For a couple on a short cruise, an interior or balcony cabin may provide plenty of space.    For families or longer cruises, the extra room offered by a mini-suite or suite could make a noticeable difference.    4. Where is the cabin located?    Don't just look at the cabin category. The location of your stateroom matters too.    Think about how close you want to be to lifts, restaurants, entertainment venues and the pool deck. If you're a light sleeper, you may prefer to avoid cabins directly beneath busy public areas or close to late-night venues.    It's also worth checking the deck plan for your specific Princess ship before selecting your cabin.    5. Check the exact cabin, not just the category    Two cabins in the same broad category aren't necessarily identical.    Balcony size, views, location, accessibility, connecting-room options and obstructions can all vary.    Princess itself notes that photos, floor plans, furnishings and arrangements can vary by ship and individual stateroom, so always check the specific cabin you're booking.    What cabin should you choose on a Princess cruise?  For most first-time Princess cruisers, a balcony cabin is a strong all-round choice if the price fits your budget. It gives you your own outdoor space without the additional cost of a mini-suite or suite.    However, don't assume that the most expensive cabin will automatically give you the best cruise.    A well-located interior cabin can be excellent value for a passenger who spends little time in their room, while a balcony can be worth the upgrade for someone who loves having a private view.    The best Princess cabin is ultimately the one that matches how you actually plan to spend your cruise.    Princess Cruises cabin FAQs  Q - What is the cheapest cabin on Princess Cruises?  A - Interior staterooms are generally Princess' most budget-friendly cabin category. Prices vary according to the ship, itinerary, sailing date and availability.    Q - Do Princess cabins have balconies?  A - Not all Princess cabins have balconies. Interior and oceanview cabins don't have private balconies, while standard balcony cabins, mini-suites and many suites do. Some suites have windows instead of balconies.    Q - Are Princess mini-suites bigger than balcony cabins?  A - Yes. Princess mini-suites offer more space than balcony staterooms and include a separate sitting area. Exact sizes vary by ship and category.    Q - Do Princess cabins have fridges?  A - Princess staterooms include a refrigerator, alongside other standard cabin amenities. Check the specific cabin information for your sailing if you need to know exactly what is provided.    Q - Can I choose my cabin on a Princess cruise?  A - Where available, you can select a specific stateroom when booking. Cabin availability depends on the sailing and category, so popular locations can sell quickly.    Q - What is the best location for a Princess cabin?  A - The best location depends on your priorities. Midship cabins can be convenient if you want a central position, while cabins away from busy public areas may be preferable if you value peace and quiet. Always check the individual ship's deck plan before choosing.    Q - Are balcony cabins worth paying extra for on Princess Cruises?  A - For many guests, yes. A balcony gives you private outdoor space and can be particularly enjoyable on scenic itineraries. However, if you don't expect to use it often, an interior or oceanview cabin could provide better value.    Find your perfect Princess Cruises cabin  From affordable interior staterooms to spacious suites and exclusive Sanctuary Collection accommodation, Princess Cruises offers plenty of ways to tailor your accommodation to your budget and travel style.    The key is to look beyond the cabin name and consider space, location, views, balcony access and the benefits included with the specific stateroom.    Once you've found the right cabin, you can concentrate on the part that really matters: enjoying your Princess cruise.

Princess MedallionClass: Everything You Need to Know Before Your Cruise

Princess MedallionClass: Everything You Need to Know Before Your Cruise

Princess MedallionClass: Everything You Need to Know Before Your Cruise  If you're planning a Princess Cruises holiday, you may have heard the term MedallionClass and wondered what it actually means.   Is the Princess Medallion a replacement for your cruise card? Do you need the Princess Cruises app? Can you order food and drinks to your sun lounger? And is MedallionClass included with your cruise?    The short answer is that Princess MedallionClass is designed to make your cruise easier, from checking in and getting into your stateroom to ordering food, making dining reservations and finding your way around the ship.    Here's everything you need to know before you sail.      What is Princess MedallionClass?  Princess MedallionClass is a technology-enabled cruise experience available across Princess Cruises' fleet.    At the heart of it is the Princess Medallion, a small wearable device that connects you to different services around the ship. It can be used as your stateroom key, boarding credential, onboard payment method and identification for crew services.    The Medallion works alongside the Princess Cruises app, which you can use before and during your cruise to complete check-in, make dining reservations, view activities and access features such as OceanNow delivery.    Rather than being something you have to constantly think about, the idea is that the technology works in the background to make everyday parts of your cruise simpler.    What is the Princess Medallion?  The Princess Medallion is a small wearable device that you can carry or wear while you're onboard.    It replaces the traditional cruise card and can be used for several important parts of your holiday, including:  Boarding the ship Unlocking your stateroom Making purchases onboard Identifying you to crew members Accessing certain MedallionClass services  Princess says the Medallion replaces the traditional cruise card entirely, so there's no need to carry a separate key card around the ship.    It's a surprisingly simple idea: one small device that connects you to your cruise.    Is the Princess Medallion free?  Yes, the Medallion itself is complimentary.    However, it's important not to confuse the free Medallion with every service that can be accessed through MedallionClass.    Some features and services can depend on your cruise fare or package. For example, OceanNow delivery and MedallionNet Max Wi-Fi are currently included with Princess Plus and Princess Premier, while other guests can purchase certain services separately.    So, before booking a package, it's worth looking at what you'll actually use during your cruise.      How does the Princess Medallion work?  The Medallion uses technology to recognise you around the ship, allowing different services to connect with your account.    One of the most noticeable examples is your stateroom door.    Keyless stateroom entry  Approach your stateroom and the door can recognise your Medallion and unlock automatically.    You don't need to stop outside your cabin searching through your pockets for a cruise card – particularly useful if you're carrying shopping, coming back from the pool or returning from a shore excursion.    Princess also says the stateroom door can provide a personalised greeting when you arrive.    Contactless boarding  Before your cruise, you can complete the required OceanReady check-in through the Princess Cruises app.   This allows you to provide information ahead of your holiday and prepare for embarkation, helping to make your arrival at the terminal smoother. Princess also uses arrival groups on applicable sailings to help manage the embarkation process.    Cruise tip: Don't leave your OceanReady check-in until you're at the port. Download the app and complete the required steps before you travel.    What can you do with Princess MedallionClass?  This is where MedallionClass becomes more than just a replacement for a cruise card.    Order food and drinks wherever you are  One of the most useful features is OceanNow®.    Using the Princess Cruises app, you can order selected food and drinks and have them delivered to your stateroom or eligible locations around the ship. The Medallion helps Princess identify where you are, so you don't necessarily need to enter a cabin number or meet a delivery person at your door.    Imagine you're relaxing by the pool and fancy a drink. Instead of getting up and heading to the nearest bar, you can place an order through the app.    Good to know: OceanNow charges depend on your fare or package. Princess currently includes OceanNow delivery with Princess Plus and Princess Premier, while a charge can apply if you're travelling without those packages.    Make and manage dining reservations  Princess' Dine My Way® system gives you more flexibility over when and where you eat.   You can choose dining times and make reservations through the Princess Cruises app, including dining room and specialty restaurant options. You can also change your plans if your day doesn't go quite as expected.   This is particularly useful if you're planning shore excursions, watching an evening show or simply don't want to eat at exactly the same time every night.    Our tip: If there's a particular dining time or restaurant you really want, make your reservations early.    Can the Princess Medallion help you find your way around the ship?  Yes.    Large cruise ships can take a little while to get used to, especially on your first day.    MedallionClass includes features designed to help you navigate around the ship, while the Princess Cruises app can help you see what's happening onboard and find venues and activities.    You can also use the technology to help locate members of your travelling party, making it easier to meet up when you're exploring different parts of the ship.    This can be especially handy for families or groups who don't want to spend the day constantly messaging each other with questions like, "Which deck are you on?"    What is the Princess Cruises app?  The Princess Cruises app is an important part of the MedallionClass experience.    Before your cruise, you can use it to complete OceanReady check-in and prepare your booking.    Once onboard, it can help you:  View activities and events Make dining reservations Order OceanNow food and drinks Manage aspects of your onboard experience Stay connected with your travelling party Access other MedallionClass features  Princess recommends downloading the app before you embark, and there is also a web version for guests who don't have a compatible device.    Do you need to be constantly on your phone? No.  The Medallion itself handles several important functions, such as stateroom entry and onboard payments. But having the app ready will make it much easier to get the most from MedallionClass.    Does the Princess Medallion replace your cruise card?  Yes.    Princess confirms that the Medallion replaces the traditional cruise card entirely.    It acts as your:  Stateroom key Boarding credential Onboard payment method Identification for crew services  For first-time Princess cruisers, this can take a little getting used to if you're accustomed to carrying a cruise card on a lanyard.    The upside is that there's one less card to keep track of.    What is MedallionNet Wi-Fi?  It's important to separate MedallionClass from MedallionNet.    MedallionNet is Princess Cruises' onboard Wi-Fi service, allowing you to browse the internet, send messages, make video calls, share photos and stream content while at sea.    Princess also offers MedallionNet Max, its higher-performing Wi-Fi service.    For current 2026 cruises, MedallionNet Max is included with Princess Plus and Princess Premier. Princess states that Plus includes one device per guest, while Premier includes four devices per guest.    If reliable internet is important to you, this is one of the features worth considering when comparing Princess packages.    What happens if I don't have Wi-Fi?  You don't need to purchase an internet package simply to use the Princess Cruises app for onboard features.    Princess says the app can be downloaded or updated onboard at no cost when connected to the ship's MedallionNet network, although a paid internet package is required for general internet access.   So you can still use relevant onboard app features without automatically paying for full internet access.    Is Princess MedallionClass worth it?  For most cruisers, the real benefit of MedallionClass is convenience.    There's no single feature that completely changes your holiday. Instead, it's the combination of smaller conveniences:  Your cabin door opens as you approach. You can pay without carrying a cruise card. You can order food and drinks to selected locations. You can manage dining reservations from your phone. You can find activities and navigate the ship more easily. You can stay connected with people travelling with you.  For a first-time cruiser, those features can make a large ship feel much easier to navigate.    For regular cruisers, it's the little things that can make the experience feel more seamless.    Is MedallionClass worth paying extra for?  This is where it's important to understand the difference between MedallionClass and Princess Plus or Princess Premier.    You don't need to buy a package simply to have MedallionClass – the Medallion experience itself is part of the Princess cruise experience.    However, packages can include additional benefits that work particularly well alongside it.    For example, current Princess Plus and Princess Premier packages include OceanNow delivery and MedallionNet Max Wi-Fi, alongside other benefits.    Whether a package represents good value depends on how much you'll use those inclusions.    If you know you'll want Wi-Fi, regularly order drinks, use OceanNow and make use of other package benefits, it's worth comparing the total cost against paying for those things individually.    Our Princess MedallionClass tips  Download the app before you travel - don't wait until you're at the cruise terminal. Complete OceanReady before embarkation - getting the required information sorted in advance can make the start of your cruise much easier. Make dining reservations early - popular dining times can be in demand, so check your options before you sail. Keep your Medallion somewhere convenient - you can wear or carry it in whatever way works best for you.  Learn OceanNow early - it's one of the features you'll appreciate most when you don't fancy leaving your sun lounger.  Check what's included in your fare - don't assume every MedallionClass feature is automatically free. Services such as OceanNow and Wi-Fi can vary depending on your package.  Don't rely entirely on your phone - the Medallion handles important functions itself, so you don't need to spend your entire cruise with your phone in your hand.      Princess MedallionClass FAQs  Q - What is Princess MedallionClass?  A - Princess MedallionClass is a technology-enabled cruise experience that uses the Princess Medallion and Princess Cruises app to make parts of your cruise easier, including boarding, stateroom entry, payments, dining and food and drink delivery.    Q - Is the Princess Medallion free?  A - Yes. Seattle to Alaska cruise: Things to do before your cruise

Seattle to Alaska cruise: Things to do before your cruise

Seattle to Alaska cruise: Things to do before your cruise  If you're planning an Alaska cruise from Seattle, it’s tempting to arrive the day before your sailing, spend a night near the port and head straight onto your ship. But after spending a week exploring Washington State, I discovered that Seattle is much more than a convenient starting point for an Alaska cruise.    From Seattle’s famous Pike Place Market and waterfront to whale watching, mountains, beaches, temperate rainforest and national parks, there’s an incredible amount to see before or after your cruise.    I visited Seattle as part of a seven-day trip combining city sightseeing, cruise ship visits and adventures across Washington State. If you're considering adding a few days to your Alaska cruise from Seattle, here’s what I discovered.    Why combine Seattle with an Alaska cruise?  Seattle is one of the most popular departure points for Alaska cruises, and it makes an excellent starting point for a longer holiday.    The city itself is worth exploring, but its location also makes it easy to discover more of Washington State. In Seattle, you can experience coastline, mountains, wildlife, national parks and rainforest.    That means you can turn a week-long Alaska cruise into a much longer cruise and stay holiday, with time on land before or after your sailing.    For me, that was the biggest surprise of the trip. I originally thought of Seattle as somewhere to spend a night or two before an Alaska cruise. By the end of the week, I realised it could easily be a holiday destination in its own right.      Day 1: Flying from London to Seattle  My trip started at Heathrow, where I flew with Delta in Premium Select.    Having never flown Delta before, I was impressed by the additional comfort compared with economy. Premium Select offered priority check-in and boarding, a welcome drink, an amenity kit, memory foam pillow, blanket and noise-cancelling headphones.    The wider seat, additional legroom and adjustable footrest made a noticeable difference on the 12-hour flight to the US. There was also a large entertainment screen with a wide selection of films and TV series.    Food and drinks were served throughout the flight, including an evening meal, snacks and drinks, followed by pizza and dessert before landing.    Another useful benefit when you're combining a land stay with a cruise is the additional checked luggage allowance. When you're packing for an Alaska cruise, having extra space can be particularly useful because you may need everything from warm layers and waterproofs to lighter clothing for exploring Seattle.    My tip: allow time for Seattle immigration    If you're flying from the UK to Seattle, remember to allow plenty of time for arrival formalities.    Eligible travellers may also be able to use the Mobile Passport Control app to submit their passport information in advance and access a dedicated processing queue.    Once we had arrived in Seattle, we headed to our hotel for the next two nights.    The Hyatt Regency was a great base for exploring the city. It was around a 10-minute walk from Pike Place Market and close to public transport, making it easy to get around without relying on a car.      Day 2: Exploring Seattle and visiting Holland America Line's Eurodam  The second day began with a visit to Holland America Line's Eurodam.    Eurodam spends the summer season sailing from Seattle to Alaska, with itineraries visiting destinations including Juneau, Ketchikan and Sitka.    Holland America Line has a long history in Alaska, dating back to 1947, and the cruise line's experience in the region is one of the reasons it remains a popular choice for an Alaska cruise from Seattle.    What is Eurodam like?  Stepping onboard Eurodam, I immediately noticed how different it felt from some of the     Stepping onboard Eurodam, I immediately noticed how different it felt from some of the larger, newer cruise ships.    The ship has a more classic and traditional feel, with a relaxed atmosphere and plenty of places to eat, listen to music and unwind.    With space for around 2,700 guests, Eurodam felt large enough to offer plenty to do while still being easy to navigate.    We also had lunch at Pinnacle Grill, one of the ship’s speciality restaurants. As a vegetarian, I was particularly pleased with the choice available.    One of the things that stood out about Holland America Line was how much of the onboard experience is designed around the destination, particularly when sailing in Alaska. The cruise line’s Alaska Up Close programme brings the region to life through expert-led talks, cooking demonstrations, local food and opportunities to learn more about the wildlife, landscapes and culture you’ll encounter along the way.    There are also some great opportunities to experience Alaska from the ship, from spotting wildlife and dramatic scenery to sailing past glaciers. Holland America Line’s Alaska itineraries can also include experiences such as Glacier Discovery, giving guests the chance to see some of the region’s spectacular scenery up close.    Food is another part of the experience. Holland America Line’s Port to Plate programme highlights locally sourced seafood, including Alaskan seafood, giving guests the chance to enjoy produce connected to the destination they’re visiting.    For me, that was one of the biggest takeaways from sailing with Holland America Line: Alaska isn’t simply the backdrop to the cruise. The destination is brought into the experience onboard, from the food and entertainment to the expert knowledge and scenery outside your window.    Things to do in Seattle  After lunch, we headed into the city.    One of my favourite stops was Olympic Sculpture Park. Located on the Seattle waterfront, it offers views across Puget Sound, Elliott Bay, the Olympic Mountains and downtown Seattle.    From there, we walked to Seattle Aquarium, where we learned about conservation work taking place in the region, including efforts to reduce underwater noise and protect local whale populations.    In the evening, we headed to Smith Tower.    Seattle's oldest skyscraper combines history with panoramic city views, making it a great option if you want to see the city from above while enjoying a drink.    We finished the day at Ivar's Acres of Clams on the waterfront. The restaurant is well known for its seafood and clam chowder, making it a fitting place to end our first full day in Seattle.      Day 3: Star Princess, Pike Place Market and Boeing  We started the morning at one of Seattle's most recognisable attractions: the Original Starbucks.    The store can get busy, so arriving early helped us avoid the queues.    From there, we headed to Pike Place Market, one of Seattle's most famous landmarks.    Established in 1907, the market is one of the oldest continuously operating public markets in the US. We watched the famous fishmongers throwing fish between the stalls before exploring the market ourselves.    If you're visiting Seattle before an Alaska cruise, I'd definitely recommend making time for Pike Place Market. But Seattle is just the beginning of what makes a Princess Alaska holiday interesting.    Princess Cruises offers more than just a cruise through Alaska, with the option to combine your sailing with time in the wilderness through its Princess Wilderness Lodges and CruiseTours. These land-and-sea holidays can take you beyond the coastal ports and into Alaska's interior, with opportunities to experience destinations such as Denali National Park.    The lodges also give you a very different perspective on Alaska compared with simply visiting by ship. Instead of waking up to a view of the ocean, you can spend time surrounded by forests, mountains and Alaska's wildlife before or after your cruise.   For anyone planning an Alaska cruise, it's worth looking at the different cruise-and-land options available. A few extra days in Alaska's interior can turn a cruise into a much bigger holiday experience.      Star Princess from Seattle  Our next stop was another cruise ship: Princess Cruises' Star Princess.    One of the newest and largest ships in the Princess fleet, Star Princess also sails from Seattle during the summer season, with itineraries visiting destinations such as Juneau, Victoria and Skagway.    We had the opportunity to see some of the Sanctuary suites and visit the adults-only Sanctuary Club.    The area includes a private pool, bar and buffet, along with cabanas available to hire.    The highlight of my visit was lunch at Umai Teppanyaki, one of the ship's speciality restaurants. The food was excellent, but our chef and host Victor made the experience particularly memorable.    If you're looking for an Alaska cruise where the ship is an important part of the holiday, Star Princess is definitely one to consider.    Boeing Future of Flight  After leaving Seattle, we travelled to Everett to visit Boeing's Future of Flight.    We toured the Boeing assembly building and saw aircraft at different stages of production.    I'm not usually someone who would automatically put an aviation museum on my holiday itinerary, but I found the experience fascinating. If you're interested in aircraft or engineering, it's well worth adding to your Seattle itinerary.    Day 4: Whale watching from Seattle  Whale watching was the part of the trip I was looking forward to most.    We travelled to Edmonds, a coastal town around 30 minutes from Seattle, where we boarded the Puget Sound Express.    The boat is designed specifically for wildlife viewing, with outdoor seating, viewing decks and an indoor cabin. There are also naturalist presentations and route tracking throughout the trip.    We were incredibly lucky with the wildlife we saw, including killer whales and grey whales, as well as a variety of birdlife.    Seeing the whales in their natural environment was one of the highlights of my entire week.    Should you go whale watching before an Alaska cruise?  Absolutely.    If you're spending several days in Seattle before your cruise, a whale watching excursion is a fantastic way to experience the region's wildlife before heading north to Alaska.    It's also a good reminder that you don't have to wait until your cruise reaches Alaska to experience incredible wildlife.    Day 4: Seattle to Olympic National Park  After whale watching, we took a local ferry to Kingston before continuing towards Port Angeles, the gateway to Olympic National Park.    We stayed at Olympic Lodge, which made a comfortable base for exploring the area.    The hotel had a cosy, rustic feel, with an outdoor heated pool and comfortable spaces to relax after a busy day.      Day 5: Olympic National Park and Ruby Beach  The following morning, we headed into Olympic National Park.    Our first stop was Hurricane Ridge, a mountainous area more than 5,000 feet above sea level.    The journey itself was spectacular, but the views from Hurricane Ridge were even better. From the top, we could see across the Olympic Mountains and surrounding landscape.    We also took a short hike, giving us the chance to experience the alpine scenery at closer range.    For anyone looking to add a national park to a Seattle cruise and stay, Olympic National Park is a fantastic option.    Ruby Beach  Next, we headed towards Ruby Beach on the Pacific coast.    The landscape couldn't have been more different from Hurricane Ridge. Instead of mountains, we were surrounded by driftwood, tide pools and rugged coastline.    It was one of those places where you can simply stop and take in the scenery.   That contrast is what makes Washington State so impressive. Within a single day, you can experience mountains and Pacific coastline.    We spent the night at Lake Quinault Lodge, where I was lucky enough to have a room overlooking the lake.    Day 6: Olympic National Park rainforest and Tacoma  Our final morning in the Olympic National Park area took us into the rainforest.    Our local guide showed us around the forest, including an area nicknamed the Valley of Giants because of its huge trees.    What surprised me most was just how dramatically the landscape had changed. In less than 24 hours, we'd experienced mountains, beaches and rainforest.    From there, we headed back towards Seattle, stopping in Tacoma.    Things to do in Tacoma  One of our stops was LeMay – America's Car Museum, home to a huge collection of cars spanning more than a century.    Even if you're not a dedicated car enthusiast, it's an interesting way to spend a few hours.    We then checked into Hotel Murano, which was unlike anywhere else I'd stayed during the trip.    The hotel combines accommodation with art, with different exhibits throughout the building.    Tacoma also has strong connections to glass artist Dale Chihuly, whose influence can be seen throughout the city.    Day 7: Mount Rainier and flying home  Our final day was another big one.    We travelled to Mount Rainier National Park, home to Mount Rainier, an active volcano and the highest peak in Washington State.    We headed towards Paradise, one of the most popular areas of the national park, where we met our guide for a short hike.    The goal was to see the snow-capped summit, but I had another item on my wildlife wish list: a bear.    Our guide warned us that sightings weren't guaranteed, but incredibly, we managed to see two.    After an already incredible week exploring Washington State, it felt like the perfect way to finish the trip.      Flying home from Seattle  It was then time to head back to Seattle-Tacoma International Airport and begin the journey home.    I flew Virgin Atlantic Upper Class and found the experience a great way to finish the trip.    Before boarding, we used the Delta Sky Club at the airport, where we could relax, enjoy food and drinks and make use of the facilities.    Onboard, we were welcomed with drinks and nibbles before enjoying a three-course meal.    One of the features I particularly liked was the choice between being woken for a full breakfast before landing or having a quicker express breakfast closer to arrival.    There was also a self-service snack and drinks area called the Wander Wall, located in the galley for Upper Class passengers.    The seat converted into a fully flat bed, and pyjamas were provided for the overnight flight.    After dinner, I got changed, settled in and managed to get some sleep. I opted for the express breakfast before landing and arrived back at Heathrow feeling much more refreshed than I expected.    Is Seattle worth adding to an Alaska cruise?  After this trip, my answer is definitely yes.    If you're booking an Alaska cruise from Seattle, I'd strongly recommend considering a few extra nights before or after your sailing rather than treating Seattle as simply a place to board your ship.    You could spend a couple of days exploring Seattle itself, visiting Pike Place Market, the waterfront and the city's attractions. If you have longer, you can venture further into Washington State for whale watching, national parks, mountains, beaches and rainforest.    For me, that was the biggest takeaway from the trip.    An Alaska cruise is an incredible holiday in its own right, but adding a Seattle cruise and stay gives you the opportunity to experience even more of the landscapes and wildlife that make the Pacific Northwest so special.    My top things to do before an Alaska cruise from Seattle    If you're short on time, these would be my priorities:  Explore Pike Place Market – one of Seattle's most famous landmarks and a great introduction to the city. Go whale watching – one of the highlights of my entire trip. Visit Olympic National Park – particularly Hurricane Ridge and Ruby Beach. See Mount Rainier – a spectacular addition for anyone who loves nature and hiking. Explore Seattle's waterfront – including Olympic Sculpture Park and Seattle Aquarium. Take a longer cruise and stay – if you have the time, Washington State is well worth exploring beyond Seattle.    Ready to add Seattle to your Alaska cruise?  Seattle is one of the best starting points for an Alaska cruise, but there's no reason your holiday has to begin and end at the cruise terminal.    Whether you want a short city break before sailing or a longer Washington State adventure, combining a Seattle stay with an Alaska cruise can turn an already memorable holiday into an even bigger experience.    And after spending a week exploring the area myself, I'd highly recommend giving yourself more time than just one night.

Captain’s Circle members can access new itineraries one week before general sale, giving them an opportunity to book earlier.   At Platinum, the 50% discount on MedallionNet packages can be valuable if staying connected is important to you.    At Elite level, complimentary laundry, afternoon tea in your stateroom, the mini-bar set-up and priority services are among the benefits that can make a noticeable difference to your cruise.    The important point is that Captain’s Circle isn't simply about getting a cheaper cruise. Some benefits are about saving money, while others are about priority access and added convenience.    Does Captain’s Circle give you discounts on Princess cruises?  Yes, Captain’s Circle members can receive Captain’s Circle Launch Savings and preferential pricing offers.    Princess also promotes past guest loyalty offers as part of its current cruise deals and promotions.    The exact value of a loyalty offer can vary depending on the sailing and promotion, so it’s best to check the terms of the specific offer rather than assuming every cruise will have the same discount.    For example, Princess currently advertises Captain’s Circle Launch Savings on selected new-season sailings, with the amount depending on the length of the voyage and the promotion involved.    Do Captain’s Circle members get early access to new cruises?  Yes.    This is one of the programme's most useful benefits, particularly if you like to book popular itineraries early.    Princess currently states that all Captain’s Circle members are eligible for early access to new itineraries one week before they go on sale to the general public.    Members are notified by email, so it’s worth keeping your contact details up to date and checking your inbox when a new season is announced.      Do children get Captain’s Circle membership?  Yes. Princess states that children and teenagers become Captain’s Circle members after completing their first Princess cruise.    They can then progress through the programme as they complete more Princess cruises.    This means families who regularly cruise with Princess can build up loyalty status across future holidays rather than the programme being limited to the adults in the booking.    How do you move up Princess Captain’s Circle?  The easiest way to think about the programme is that you qualify based on either cruises completed or cruise days sailed.    The current thresholds are:  Gold: 1 completed cruise Ruby: 3 cruises or 30 cruise days Platinum: 5 cruises or 50 cruise days Elite: 15 cruises or 150 cruise days  You don't need to satisfy both requirements.    Princess also notes that you become eligible for the higher tier on your next cruise after completing the necessary number of cruises or cruise days.    Is Princess Captain’s Circle worth it?  If you’re planning to cruise with Princess more than once, there’s plenty of value in making the most of Captain’s Circle.    Membership is automatic after your first completed cruise, and even Gold members can benefit from early itinerary access, preferential offers and members-only events.    The higher tiers become increasingly useful for frequent cruisers, particularly if you regularly use Wi-Fi, book shore excursions, visit the spa or value priority services.    And because you qualify through either cruise numbers or cruise days, longer cruises can help you progress without needing to complete as many individual sailings.    How to get the most from Captain’s Circle  Already a member? A few simple things can help you make sure you don't miss out.    Keep your Captain’s Circle number on your bookings  Princess advises guests to include their Captain’s Circle number whenever they book. This helps ensure your cruise history is correctly recorded and your benefits are recognised.    Check for new itinerary announcements  Don't overlook your emails when Princess launches a new season. Captain’s Circle members can get early access before the general public.    Check your loyalty offers before booking  Captain’s Circle Launch Savings and other preferential pricing offers can vary by sailing, so check what's available before committing to your next cruise.    Know which tier you're travelling at  Your benefits can change considerably between Gold, Ruby, Platinum and Elite. Knowing your current status means you can take advantage of the benefits included with your membership.    Think about the benefits you'll actually use  A 50% MedallionNet discount might be particularly valuable to one cruiser, while complimentary laundry or priority services could be more useful to another.    The best Captain’s Circle benefits are the ones that fit the way you cruise.    Princess Captain’s Circle FAQs  Q - Is Princess Captain’s Circle free?  A - Yes. There is no separate membership fee. You automatically become a Captain’s Circle member after completing your first Princess cruise.    Q - What are the Princess Captain’s Circle levels?  A - There are four levels: Gold, Ruby, Platinum and Elite.    Q - How many cruises do you need for Princess Ruby?  A - You need to complete 3 Princess cruises or 30 cruise days to reach Ruby status.    Q - How many cruises do you need for Princess Platinum?  A - You need to complete 5 Princess cruises or 50 cruise days to reach Platinum status.    Q - How many cruises do you need for Princess Elite?  A - You need to complete 15 Princess cruises or 150 cruise days to reach Elite status.    Q - Do Captain’s Circle members get cruise discounts?  A - Captain’s Circle members can receive Launch Savings and preferential pricing offers.
